As part of the Adsumus Pilot Program Parish, St Benedict’s Church in Applecross have utilised Fr. Nino’s video resource, the PowerPoint slides to accompany Fr. Nelson’s homily, and have carried out three name tag weekends.
From all accounts, the up to 800 regular churchgoers have taken to the Adsumus initiative with interest and support.
As a positive barometer, on the name tag weekends, our mass is more so abuzz, especially during the segment of wishing each other the Sign of Peace. As soon as we are given Peace by Father Nelson, the congregation then turns to each other, with heightened enthusiasm, to wish each other, “PEACE BE WITH YOU, (insert first name)”, along with beaming smiles and a greater sense of community spirit, all due to the Adsumus calling. 😊

Holy Family Como was selected to be one of the 4 parishes in the Perth Archdiocese to pilot the Adsumus Initiative with the help of the Parish Renewal Team.
A small working team was then formed in early April consisting of representatives from the Parish Pastoral Council and Liturgy Committee. They worked together with Fr Dat Vuong and the parish secretary to implement the program week in, week out, including distributing the evaluation form at the beginning of Step 2. One hundred and fifty one or approximately a third of the regular parishioners returned the form and the result was quite interesting. One of the insights was that most of the respondents wanted to develop their spiritual life and felt belonged to the community of similar values. However, half of them so far only do so through attending regular mass which shows the potential to be more actively present in parish life.
As we are currently in Step 3, the working team is finalising the list of activities/ministries to be offered, aiming to distribute it on the Launch Sunday: 3 August 2024.
